Postgraduate Associate (B.S. or B.A.)


The Cognitive/Computational Human Neuroscience (CHuN) Lab in the Department of Psychology and Wu Tsai Institute at Yale University is hiring a postgraduate associate to start in the summer of 2023. We are seeking a candidate with programming skills and preferably some brain imaging experience. This is a one-year appointment renewable for a second year based on mutual agreement.

Our lab uses functional magnetic resonance imaging and behavioral studies to investigate visual working memory, long-term memory, attention, and perception.  Primary methods include multivoxel pattern analysis and connectivity-based predictive modeling. Projects are led by Marvin Chun and Yaoda Xu; please see the links for more information.

Training: Postgraduate associates will be involved in all aspects of our lab’s research including but not limited to: recruit, screen, schedule, and run participants in behavioral and neuroimaging studies; program studies (e.g., Matlab, Python, C); data entry and analysis; literature review and writing; generate reports; maintain human subject protocols and databases; train and oversee student assistants; oversee subject reimbursements and lab expenses; manage websites; track and order research supplies; perform miscellaneous duties related to research.

Mentoring: Postgraduate associates will be mentored by Marvin Chun, Yaoda Xu, and other senior researchers in the lab.  They will be required to attend weekly lab meetings and encouraged to participate in frequent seminars offered by the Department of Psychology, Wu Tsai Institute, and other related departments around Yale.   

Qualifications:

  • B.S. or B.A. degree required
  • Coursework or experience in brain imaging, statistics and data science, computer science, psychology, cognitive science, neuroscience, or mathematics.
  • Priority will be given to individuals with
    • Data analysis skills using Matlab, R, or Python
    • Brain imaging methods and analysis skills
    • Human lab research experience.
    • Excellent writing and verbal skills
    • Interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a team environment
    • Professional skills including accuracy, reliability, attention to detail, and ability to multitask.
  • This position is best suited for recent graduates seeking additional research experience before graduate school. A two-year commitment is preferred to ensure time for the associate to earn authorship on lab publications.
